Exciting news from Lisa Sabatini: Changes to in-person appointments

Reiki TelehealthI’m happy to share I am getting married at the end of April! The planning has been very special, we will be married in the forest at a Healing Lodge by my Algonquin Medicine Man, and my dear friend and colleague a Cree Medicine Woman. Each representing the sacred feminine, and sacred masculine in one of my favorite places on earth, the forest. It will be a beautiful Ceremony!

My soon to be husband is not Canadian, so I will be away from Kingston while we are organizing and working with immigration over the following several months. Because of this, all of my sessions will be virtual from June 1st until mid to late Fall.

Virtual Sessions, Summer and Fall 2024

Virtual sessions are the same as my in-person sessions, equally effective, and many people find them very convenient. If you haven’t had a virtual session with me yet, I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to returning to in-person sessions in the Fall, and in the meantime continuing to bring you the same quality of care virtually for the time being!

Menopause Group Class Syllabus

Classes are available on Thursdays at either 9am, 3pm or 6pm. Please indicate your preferred time – this will be your same class time for the duration of the 6-month series.  Please include your preferred time in your correspondence with Dr. Hunt. This 6-month program will not be offered again until Fall 2025.

Session ONE, October 2024: What’s happening?!

We’ll start by discussing what’s actually happening in a woman’s body throughout the perimenopause and menopause transition. We’ll link these changes to common symptoms such as hot flashes, anxiety, and insomnia, and dispel some of the myths we come up against in our society. Participants will leave with a treatment plan that addresses some of these more common concerns of menopause.

Session TWO, November 2024: Healthy Heart for Years to Come

Did you know that cardiovascular disease kills 1 out of 3 women? Even though cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, so few women know their own risk factors. Risk factors for various illnesses are all affected by hormone changes during menopause and the heart is an important one. This class explores steps we can take now to protect our heart health.

Session THREE, December 2024: Health for Bones & Your Brain

Two other major systems impacted by menopause are bone health and cognition. Dr. Hunt takes a deep-dive into the literature to explain why these changes happen. The focus of this class will be on prevention and proactive behaviors that keep your bones strong and brain sharp.

Session FOUR, January 2025: Sensuality & Sexuality

Where did my libido go? Changes in sexual desire is a major complaint among women going through menopause. Other common changes and topics of discussion include vaginal dryness and pain during intercourse. This class tackles this topic with a refreshingly open and lighthearted approach. Participants will leave with tangible resources and support.

Session FIVE, February 2025: Emotional & Spiritual Transitions

Menopause involves more than a physical transition. Women often experience significant changes in their life goals and relationships.  This is a great space for safe conversations and open dialogue about each other’s experiences. We’ll explore different traditions and cultures’ approaches to the menopausal transition.

Session SIX, March 2025: Embracing Changes

This last class is designed to pull it all together. We’ll circle back and move more deeply into previous topics of most interest to the group, including weight management through menopause, cancer prevention, and mental health.

Breathing Group Class Syllabus

June 16th, 2024: What’s your breathing pattern?

Understanding why our breathing is important, is essential to changing it! In this session we’ll take an in-depth look at how breathing plays a vital role in our health. We’ll discuss how maladapted breathing patterns directly impact our nervous system, our muscle tension, chronic pain, and even the pH of our whole body. We’ll take preliminary measurements of how well each participant breathes, and monitor our breathing measurements for improvements over each session.

July 15th, 2024: Adapt your breathing for optimal health

In this session, we’ll use the baseline measurements from session one, to develop a treatment plan for each participant. We’ll explore breathing retraining exercises, nasal health, stretches and strengthening movements. An in-depth discussion on habit building will help set participants up for success!

Aug 12th, 2024: Advanced breathing exercises

In this session, we’ll progress the breathing exercises with advanced tools and exercises that will allow participants to further challenge their breathing in a safe and effective manner. We will also continue to explore the breath with mindfulness practices.

Continuous Glucose Monitors for Weight Loss

Continuous Glucose MonitorsI’ll come right out and say it: I’m a healthy middle-aged woman who thought that her experiment with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) would validate her choice to regularly enjoy things like nutty muesli, whole-grain toast, and the odd beer, without consequence. This experiment was a useful wakeup call.

Myths of Perimenopause

by Dr Angela Hunt ND

Debunking common myths about perimenopause:

We use the term menopause to mark the end of hormone production by a woman’s ovaries and the permanent end of her menstrual cycle. Perimenopause precedes menopause, and is characterized by irregular periods, hot flashes, mood swings, and various other symptoms related to a decline in ovarian hormone production. Initially, progesterone levels decrease, followed by estrogen. This hormonal shift can make perimenopause symptomatic for many women. Let’s debunk some common myths about perimenopause:

Ten Reasons to Start a Garden This Year

Start a GardenEven though we are still very much in winter, the gardener in me has started to plan. The snow and ice doesn’t deter me because I know this is the time of year that I start planting seeds, literally and figuratively. I will be planning out my garden, deciding which new plants I want to grow and which ones need to be removed from the roster. Flipping through seed catalogs with a warm tea and crackling fire is a wonderful pastime. Have I convinced you yet? If not, here are the top ten reasons I think you should start a vegetable garden this spring.

Before Your Kids Start Speech Therapy

Mouth breatherCommunication is an essential part of healthy relationships. A child who struggles to express themselves with clear speech or words might feel significant anxiety or frustration when interacting with important people in their lives. Younger children might express these feelings as aggressive or challenging behaviour. A Speech-Language Pathologist can help pinpoint how and why communication is difficult, and develop targeted therapy sessions to address these challenges. However, if clear speech and articulation are the primary concern, it’s important to address this critical health piece first:
