Lyme Disease

In 2013, Kingston public health officials identified Borrelia, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, in 23% of ticks. By 2020, this number had increased to about 50%, and some reports suggest that regions just outside of Kingston are as high as 80%.

We live in an endemic area. Dr. Sonya Nobbe uses a variety of tests to help her make an accurate diagnosis, including those offered by IGeneX Laboratories, which go beyond the ELISA tests conducted by Public Health in Ontario. However, because a proper diagnosis is made based on symptoms, laboratory testing is not always required. Please view the self-assessment section of our website and Chronic Lyme Disease Program, for more information.
