Joel Ackerman, DOMP, RMT

Osteopathic Manual Practitioner

Joel’s healthcare career began in 2009 in the field of massage therapy. His clients’ complex pain concerns led him to seek additional training in subtle and gentle manual therapies, such as craniosacral therapy and more recently, osteopathy. These approaches recognize that the source of pain may not be where the individual feels it—or even in the muscles or bones. Often, the root of the issue lies in deeper tissues or in another part of the body altogether.

The science of osteopathy examines how anatomy and physiology are interconnected throughout the body. This understanding, combined with a logical assessment and treatment methodology, enables practitioners to identify and treat the underlying causes of pain and discomfort.

The aspect of osteopathy that really resonates with me is that we aren’t just blindly applying a series of techniques; instead, we propose changes to the body and engage in a dialogue with the tissues to determine whether this is the right approach for the individual at this particular moment. If the body does not respond as expected, my role is to identify why. What is preventing the body from accepting these changes? This process is fundamental in achieving positive and lasting results for clients.

Joel is pleased to work with clients of all ages, including infants, children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities and exceptionalities. He is a member in good standing of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (OAO).
