Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a 3000 year-old medical system that includes the art and science of acupuncture. Eastern-style acupuncture supports healing of nearly all health conditions by balancing organs and systems in the body. A body that is balanced can communicate well internally and is more receptive to healing.
Acupuncture can be an effective supportive treatment for health concerns related to hormones, chronic infections, digestion, fatigue and energy levels, and anxiety. Scientific research repeatedly supports the efficacy of these treatments for relief of pain and addictions, and for treatment of low fertility, hot flashes, headaches, and depression.
Our Registered Acupuncturist at KIHC is Jianmin (Jamie) Xu. Naturopathic Doctors are also trained in the application of Traditional Chinese Medicine and may recommend acupuncture as part of a complete treatment plan. Acupuncture specifically to address pain or injury is also available as part of a comprehensive physiotherapy treatment plan.
Acupuncture is part of a controlled act in Ontario, meaning that anyone offering acupuncture services must be a government-regulated health professional who is trained in the safe and effective use of acupuncture. Acupuncture may be covered by extended health insurance plans when conducted by a registered or licensed health practitioner, such as a Registered Acupuncturist, Naturopathic Doctor, or Physiotherapist.
