Connecting Farmers and Eaters through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Programs to maintain a healthier lifestyle.
by Suszane Neimanis-Klug, Roots Down Organic Farm
When we first began working our farm in 2005 we quickly realized that we were going to have a hard time funding our operation. It is very difficult for a mixed vegetable farm of this small a scale fit in to a category of small business loans and we needed to build up some infrastructure and employ farm hands in order to produce enough veggies to even begin to support ourselves. We were familiar with other farms using the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model as a solution to these problems but this concept was relatively new to the Kingston area. With this model, we would find individuals that would be willing to support our farm’s endeavors by paying ahead for veggies that they would receive throughout the growing season. We would deliver their veggies
I have always liked the start to a new year. It seems to be a time when anything is possible and opportunities are limitless.
This coming 2016 is a great example of this exciting time for my little family and I. We are moving back to the area I grew up in, to be closer to grandparents and to reconnect to my roots. I am so thrilled that I have been given the opportunity to join the KIHC team in February. As a Naturopathic Doctor with 4 years of experience under my belt, I love the work I do and to find such a great clinic to do it in is wonderful. I know that Dr. Christina will be missed and that I have some big shoes to fill, but I look forward to meeting everyone and working with you with all.
Dear Patient,
I write this letter with mixed emotions, to inform you that I will be closing my Naturopathic practice at Kingston Integrated Healthcare (KIHC) at the end of November. I will be moving to the Hamilton/Brantford area to work at an Aboriginal Health Centre on an exciting provincial health promotion initiative called the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. This decision was not an easy one to make, as I love Naturopathic Medicine and all the wonderful connections I’ve made with patients over the years. I have enjoyed working with you and helping you on your health journey and I have enjoyed working with the team members at KIHC, however this new opportunity would allow me to continue my personal growth.
