Some of you may have viewed a CBC television report discussing food allergy testing, including IgG food intolerance testing that many NDs and other licensed health professionals use to gain insight into the body’s immune system responses. This piece may have generated more questions than answers, and we’d like to offer our patients some clarification.

Though we agree with most statements made by the medical professionals interviewed by CBC television and radio reporters, it’s important to understand exactly what these professionals were carefully acknowledging, as the language used can be a bit tricky. The legislation governing Naturopathic Medicine in Ontario is changing, and we need your help to ensure that the naturopathic profession continues to grow as a critical health resource for Ontarians. Though not all of us at KIHC are Naturopathic Doctors (NDs), the legislative changes made to the ND scope of practice will impact all of the professions practicing at KIHC and consequently you, our clients and supporters of integrative medicine. Our workshop series provides specialized information in a concise, affordable format, and is one important way we like to support our Kingston community. Please contact us for more information. Our classes often require a minimum and maximum number of participants, so please be sure to register as early as possible. Advanced registration is required.

We’re gearing up for our October and November series of classes!

Next week we’ll release the 2 month calendar, which will include six Monday morning qi gong classes with Carol Belanger, another 4 part Mindfulness Meditation course Tuesday evenings with Jocelyne Leyton, detoxification and cooking classes with Christina Vlahopoulos, trigger point sessions with Joel Ackerman, and finally, a tremendous 3-part Art Therapy course by Psychotherapist Kaye-Lee Pantony and artist Vicki Westgate, that takes women through a refreshing method of self-exploration for insight and healing.

Introducing our New In-House Laboratory!

Patients of Naturopathic Doctors now have full access to our new laboratory, which includes thorough and inexpensive in-house urine testing for digestion and stress hormone balance, bone metabolism, blood-type testing, scratch testing for dust and mould allergies, and others. This is in addition to our current services, which include specialized testing for Lyme disease, food allergies, nutrient deficiencies, heavy metals, and hormone balance. Prices for individual tests start at $10, and must be requisitioned by your ND.

Welcome Joel!

We’d like to welcome Joel Ackerman, Registered Massage Therapist, to the team! Joel is currently accepting new clients.

Joel is a graduate of the Sutherland Chan School of Massage Therapy in Toronto. In addition to offering relaxation massage, Joel is skilled with treating a variety of conditions, including sports injuries, chronic pain syndromes, neurological disease, and pre- and post-surgical states. He has additional training in Shiatsu technique, pregnancy massage, and Positional and Dynamic Release. Joel enjoys working with clients of all ages and stages of health, including seniors.

Joel believes strongly in the effectiveness of massage therapy when applied as part of an integrative approach to health. When appropriate, Joel will conduct functional testing and suggest home care stretching and strengthening exercises. He enjoys educating clients about their bodies and will work with you to support your health goals.
