Breathing Assessment & Treatment Individual Sessions

Breath group classesIf you’re unable to attend scheduled group breathing classes, or would prefer a focused one-on-one assessment of your breathing concern, please schedule an appointment with Christine and be clear with our reception staff that this appointment is for a breathing assessment.

Breathing Assessment:

During this session, Christine will take a full history of your concern and is interested to know exactly what you’ve been experiencing. Some people who struggle with Breathing Pattern Disorder (BPD) share symptoms such as the following:

  • Breathlessness
  • Numbness in both hands and feet
  • Headaches
  • Excessive yawning
  • Digestive upset
  • Reflux
  • Panic attacks or anxiety
  • Loss of stability and balance
  • Dizziness
  • Incontinence
  • Chronic coughing

Together, you’ll assess many facets of breathing, such as breathing rate, oxygen saturation, your breathing pattern, rib expansion and flaring, and breath holding.

Treatment:

Treatment plans are based on your breathing assessment and are designed to help correct altered breathing patterns. They might include an exploration of triggers for BPD and involve a variety of tools, such as pursed lip breathing, humming, biofeedback, stress reduction techniques, stretching and mobility exercises. They can be conducted in-person or virtually, which allows anyone in Ontario to access this excellent, evidence-based care.

Conditions this treatment helps with:

  • Breathing Pattern Disorder
  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Emphysema
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Acute Respiratory Distress
  • Long-COVID
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic Fatigue & Stress
